"To remark that elephants simply never forget sell them short. Recent research suggests a lot more and Howard Blight's captivating new book offers a picture in which humans and elephants share a kind of real intelligence."

"Mr Blight has written a story that some people may criticize for being too anthropomorphic but I would beg to disagree. A story is a story. The only thing that matters is that it grips the reader. This is an intriguing story and poses all sorts of questions. Elephant thanks to “CITES” are world news and subject to great debate at Congresses everywhere. I have one big grouse with the elephant’s in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. “Why are you killing the white and black rhino? You have killed more than sixty rhino”. This is in Shakespeare’s words ‘Murder most Foul’ and certainly not worthy of your species. You cannot expect sympathy if this kind of behaviour continues.

"A beautiful tapestry created from the marriage of myth and fact, transporting the reader into the intimate life of a group of elephants. A well paced read which holds the interest of the reader. A book that could make a valuable contribution to the curriculum of senior school learners."

"The writer cleverly combines his profound knowledge of the African elephant, the African bush, and the people of Africa with the dire necessity for future generations to understand the reason for practical, unemotional, and long-term sustainable conservation of all our flora and fauna in a balanced eco-system in today's rapidly changing Africa."

"The book you have written has touched me very very deeply and I would like to thank you for having the courage to write a work of such width and depth for a society barely starting to conceive of the effects our presence is having on this planet. I could not have imagined a book about elephants to have incorporated such a depth and width of wisdom, myth, and insight into humankind and evolution." LEA HOLTZ |
